When you prepare an action plan - consult staff involved in finance, purchasing and management across the department/agency
- talk to internal technical experts and consult external experts if necessary
- arrange for training to raise awareness about energy management
- ensure managers know about the importance of planning and get their advice on priorities for jobs like housekeeping and reporting
- consult the department/agency's procedures for presenting your planning proposal and get your implementation team's support, especially the senior manager, to help present a plan that attracts maximum support.
Information to include - summary of historical data, e.g. using an initial energy review of the whole facility to establish the baseline for developing your system
- purpose and scope of your plan
- executive summary outlining the main information on projects, such as potential energy savings and paybacks, greenhouse gas emissions, quality improvements, monitoring of process and savings in maintenance.
- prioritiy list of urgent issues, those where no immediate action is required but there's a need for longer-term improvement, and strategically important areas for future development.
- details of how you will work to meet aims and target(s)
- time and resources you'll need
- allocation of responsibilities.
- how you will assess your program's effectiveness, and review it each year.
