Preparing an action plan PDF Print E-mail

When you prepare an action plan

  • consult staff involved in finance, purchasing and management across the department/agency
  • talk to internal technical experts and consult external experts if necessary
  • arrange for training to raise awareness about energy management
  • ensure managers know about the importance of planning and get their advice on priorities for jobs like housekeeping and reporting
  • consult the department/agency's procedures for presenting your planning proposal and get your implementation team's support, especially the senior manager, to help present a plan that attracts maximum support.

Information to include

  • summary of historical data, e.g. using an initial energy review of the whole facility to establish the baseline for developing your system
  • purpose and scope of your plan
  • executive summary outlining the main information on projects, such as potential energy savings and paybacks, greenhouse gas emissions, quality improvements, monitoring of process and savings in maintenance.
  • prioritiy list of urgent issues, those where no immediate action is required but there's a need for longer-term improvement, and strategically important areas for future development.
  • details of how you will work to meet aims and target(s)
  • time and resources you'll need
  • allocation of responsibilities.
  • how you will assess your program's effectiveness, and review it each year.
