Implementing the 15% energy reduction target: PDF Print E-mail

Energy management is a continuous series of well-planned actions to minimise recurrent government energy costs and reduce detrimental greenhouse gas emissions.

The two main energy management strategies are

  • conservation: avoiding wasteful energy use and cutting demand for energy-related services - if you don't need it, turn it off. This is achieved mainly by changing operational practices and increasing staff awareness.
  • efficiency: reducing energy consumption by introducing more efficient equipment and systems - if you need it, do it more efficiently. This is achieved mainly by acquiring efficient new equipment/plant and the energy efficient design of new facilities.

By applying the right strategies energy managers can reduce the costs of delivering government services, meet the target requirements and improve the quality of services.
